If you know me at least a little bit, then probably I told you about my most infamous cliché “Amsterdam changes every 3 months”. Well, this time it’s changing for good. In the upcoming weeks the canals within Amsterdam ring will be less green. About 600 trees will be cut, since the roots have become a threat to the stability of streets and pavements.
On the edge of such transformation, I grabbed my camera, and started a series entitled EVERGREEN.
This series is about the last season of these historical vivid totems. It´s also about quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In spite of the initial tranquil and idyllic layer of stillness along the canals, we were striving to keep ourselves at home. Blijf thuis. As much as a photographer may appreciate the opportunity of having the landscape all to herself, I must say that I can´t find a silver lining in this situation. No perfect picture will hide the lethality of the disease that claimed numerous lives, and turned the world we know upside down.
That´s my way of sharing, honoring, and remembering the multitude of shades of green leaves around the city and also the multitude of dear lives forever changed.
